IS GENERATIONAL HEALING A FACT OR FICTION?
These days a new form of healing is in vogue. It’s called Generational healing. This healing claims to heal problems created by ancestral ties. It claims to neutralize FAMILY KARMA. So, do we pay our ancestor’s karma? Let’s say our ancestors burned down an entire village, do we pay for their actions in this lifetime? There are verses in the Bible that says the sins of the father run through the next 3 or 4 generations. Is it really true that we are accountable for the sins of our ancestors? The Masters of Wisdom have taught Karma can be neutralized by learning the lessons. It is indisputable Karma can be changed. Karma definitely can be changed. But, can it be healed in spite of not learning the lessons through Generational Healing?
Many of these people who have created this new doctrine of Generational healing which was unheard of until recently fail to understand some of the basic Esoteric principles related to Heredity and Karma. Their mistakes and wrongful assertions which they defend arrogantly can be summed up to these few categories:
People who have invented Generational healing believe that characteristics/propensities/traits/karma are inherited from our ancestors thus generational healing is needed. It’s actually the other way round. We are born in families that have similar tendencies, character defects, similar problems, similar disease based on the law of attraction and also because we have similar karma like them. This is according to the proverb “Birds of a feather flock together.” The belief that heredity and karma is passed down from our ancestors would make all of us victims of the genes and karma of our Ancestors which we are not responsible directly. This would also indicate we don’t create Karma or Genes of our own but we pay the Karma and inherit the genes of other people who happen to be our ancestors. This would inevitable chain our souls to a PHYSICAL lineage of ancestors and family line who are born in the same place and same country, while it is for a fact a soul is not a body, that it incarnates in different families and nationalities in different lives. In other words every lifetime, we have a new family, therefore new ancestors! If one understands that one changes their family line in every lifetime, this theory of Generational healing becomes obsolete.
According to William Q. Judge, one of the founders of the Theosophical Movement:
Generational Healers also relate the problems in life to our ancestors. This is an example of inaccurate perception regarding the ORIGIN of our karma/traits/problems etc. This is also a very convenient cop out of taking responsibility of one’s self created Karma by blaming it on ancestors/ family members etc. Our relationship with our ancestors are strictly effects and not causes. We are born in a certain family with certain souls because we are related to them by Karma. We exchange karma with them. We have created that karma and that Karma can only be worked out through learning the lessons and through mutual interactions with the people we are bound with. Unless we learn the lessons no outside influence can annihilate that karma. This has been explained many times by Maha Atma Choa Kok Sui. Yet despite the teachings being very concise, Generational healers are spreading misinterpretation and preying on the ignorance of people to conduct business with them.
“For instance, should a mother have weak eyes and her child also evidences weak eyes, it may not be that the child has inherited the weak eyes of its mother. This would mark gross injustice on the part of our creator. It would be more correct to assume that the child came into this present incarnation with the inherent weaknesses in it’s own physical form and through the workings of the blood, fell under the influence of its “ancestors”, which is to say, the influence of it’s own past bodies in past lives.”
– Astara Book of Life
Now one might ask what did the Bible mean when it said, “The sins of the ancestors run through the next four generations.” Reading this literally is the cause of all misunderstandings. Neophytes with very little Esoteric understanding would interpret the verses of the Bible blatantly in a Literal manner. According to Esoteric teachings as presented in the above quote, our past four generations are our past four incarnations. We are the FATHER of our own Karma. Every action we generate on all eight directions and on any level is FATHERED by us.
We are not the body. We are the Soul. So if we committed homicide, should the next four physical progeny of innocent souls who did not kill anybody and who happen to be our sons, daughters, grandsons and granddaughters pay the consequences of the Karma that we created by Killing someone? Would the universal Law of Karma which is the law of cause and effect, operate in this unfair manner? According to the teachings obviously NOT! The teachings have repeatedly said we pay for our own karma and our present karma manifests in the next four incarnations as EFFECTS. We may have family karma but even in a family karma we only pay our individual debt which we created ourselves. This has been stated by all Esoteric Teachings Multiple times, over and over again. But, Generational Healers have misinterpreted the Bible in a very superstitious way that has bred all these misunderstandings.
And, now if this is true what purpose does Generational healing serve in our lives? Can the Generational Healers explain to us how the mechanism of this new form of healing works? Moreover, Generational healers scan the Father’s line of ancestors and mother’s line of ancestors to trace the Karma. We were all incarnated in a different family and perhaps a different city and country in our past lives. So, surely the present family and it’s ancestors might have little to do in shaping what we are today. Torkom Saraydarian in his book Esoteric Healing has explained this very coherently that we build our Genes and we are responsible for our own Karma in contrast to the mistaken belief of Generational healers that these things are passed down through generations:
